On my way back from town (South Mumbai), I stopped at the Girgaum Chowpatty (beach) to unwind. I saw this guy selling paper windmills along with other indigenous toys. He walked the beach but the business was not brisk as he had competition from the cheap plastic toys which seemed to capture the fancy of the kids more than the windmills, busy eating junk food and ice creams. Oh! How things change as the years go by...
I spent my childhood in the country side, not in a metro like Mumbai. We didn't have fancy toys back then. We used to play with home-made toys like paper windmills and run around the village. Another of my favorite toy was a worn out bicycle tyre that I used to run around with a stick.
When I grew up a little, I was gifted a cricket bat and a bicycle. Those were the days...

Yes, I agree with you...people like these who are street vendors are the one who took a big hit from globalisation
And I smiled when I read about that worn out tyre thing. Could imagine you playing with that.
