After 10 years of delays, intense planning and labor, the prominent Bandra-Worli Sea Link is ready for the public service.
The Bandra-Worli Sea Link bridge was lit up in the tri-colors of the Indian flag on the eve of its inauguration. It is India's first bridge constructed in open sea conditions. Magnificent fireworks, lights-n-laser show, paired with music, was held on the eve of inauguration.
While the bridge was under construction, fishermen in Worli village held regular protests. The State government had to impose a law against unlawful assembly of people at Worli village. This section banned assembly of more than three people at a time in public places. Consequently, the fishermen were unable to proceed to fishing in the sea, as they couldn't fish in such small numbers. They demanded a monthly compensation of Rs 1 lakh. The quantity of fishes were restricted because of the order, and fishermen were deprived of seasonal marine animals like lobsters crab, Bombay duck and prawns etc.
The quantum of fish being caught by fishermen at Worli is diminishing.

As for the fish catch, even if it is affected, there could be other reasons. The overall catch of the Western Coast has reduced considerably thanks to overfishing and pollution. It's a major problem across India's coast.
Finally, finally the sea link is ready for public use after all that hue and cry. It would defiantly save time to reach Bandra or visa versa, using the bridge, but, I also feel the toll charges to use the bridge are quiet high. In addition, as the development takes place the locals always get affected and face the brunt. There livelihood is snatched away. Sometimes I wonder, as to how by displacing the locals or by snatching their livelihood one can talk about development, that too without compensating or rehabilitating them.
The sky looks beautiful with the setting sun.
The fishes are disappearing and so are the locals of Mumbai.
but this is a wonderful capture you have here.. very nice shot.. :)

I like the colors, the sky, the bird..well, I like the most in this shot.
